As an obstetrician, Dr. Novak handles all aspects of pregnancy, from reproductive health through to postnatal care. His services include:

What happens during prenatal visits?

Each trimester of pregnancy presents a different set of challenges and health concerns, and the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada recommends prenatal visits to prevent complications. Women with low-risk pregnancies schedule their visits with Dr. Novak at the following intervals:

  • First 28 weeks: once per month
  • Week 28-36: every two weeks
  • Week 36-birth: every week

During all your prenatal visits, expect Dr. Novak to check your:

  • Weight
  • Fundal height measurements
  • Blood pressure
  • Urine for the presence of sugar and protein
  • Baby’s position and heart rate

At other specified times during your pregnancy, Dr. Novak performs the following:

  • Diagnostic ultrasounds
  • Genetic testing
  • Blood tests
  • Gestational diabetes screenings
  • Group B Streptococcus screenings

If you have a high-risk pregnancy, multiples, or preexisting health conditions, Dr. Novak may recommend additional testing and increase the frequency of prenatal visits.
